Dear all,

it has been more than six months since the last picture of Saarbrücken Daily Photo, and I honestly want to tell you how sorry I am about it.
Things have been complicated and I have been busy like a bee... plus, my old Casio refused to work any longer, so I'm taking pics now with my new Panasonic Lumix.

Anyway, thank you for all your support and concern.

I know that a lot of people still visit the site regularly which makes me proud and honoured, and I don't want to waste the opportunity to reach people all over the world and show them my personal view of Saarbrücken.

Taekwon-Do Seminar

On Saturday, the Taekwon-Do Center Saarland had a seminar for all Taekwon-Do students. Our grandmaster, Son Jong-Ho (7th Dan) was present and taught us some of his martial art techniques.

Yellow Bag Lorry

Stood behind this lorry at the traffic lights today. It's one of the lorries that collects the yellow bags containing our plastic recycling garbage.
The two bags hanging on the bag of the car contained reusable bottles that people accidentally threw in the recycling garbage even though they could get a refund of 15 Cents per bottle in the shops. Guess the guys driving the lorry will have a nice tip at the end of every day that way...

So the first one I'm taking out of this pool is this wonderful photo of a Ferris wheel at the Saarbrücken Oktoberfest (not comparable to the one in Munich, ours is on a much smaller scale).

I robbed my piggy bank and finally managed to take the money to the bank today, to have it paid into my bank account. I've been wanting to do this for weeks now, and finally got to the bank early enough.
So what you see here is 92,46 Euros that I managed to save over the last months. The bank has those handy machines that you just empty all the money in and it starts counting it automatically. (They make the most brilliant sound... bling bling bling!)

Oh look, it's cute and furry and big and fluffy and so funky... a caterpillar fell from the tree, so I picked it up to put it back there. It was still alive but I guess I scared it.
It didn't uncurl... which makes you see the funky black stripes between its little yellow mohawks.
I want a pet caterpillar now! =) Any suggestions for names?

Gelbe Säcke

One detail you will see twice a month in German cities are stacks of yellow bags. These contain all our plastic garbage that will be recycled.
We have several recycling systems, the green ton for biological waste like food leftovers, a blue container for paper waste, and different glass containers for green, brown and clear glass. Also, normal containers for any other waste... veeeery annoying and complicated for foreigners moving her, but let's just assume the waste manufactures stick to the recycling system, so it's for a good cause. =)

I saw this funky ice cream van today, superb colours, red and blue and yellow. The vendor was this nice Italian guy, smiling at me and the customers all the time, so it really felt like a great summer day again.
After the rain period we had within the last days, it felt great to buy a proper Italian ice.

Today, a camera team of the Saarländischer Rundfunk was filming me, asking questions and reporting about Saarbrücken Daily Photo. Super-exciting!!! =)
The movie should be shown tomorrow or the day after, I'll post the video on my private blog if I should have the right to do so.

Today it had a double meaning, because - as you can see - someone fired a small smoke bomb in the middle of the city. Quite unusual for our small town and certainly something that raised the attention level here.

Spent a cool club night in 6Null3 yesterday night. It was Elektrikhausneid Spezial, and we danced for hours and hours...
After disco, we went to the café Chez Jérome, a baguetteria which opens at 4 am every day. There, you basically meet all the people from the clubs who get their breakfast. What a great place!!! Finally I got tired and so I got home around 6 am. =)

A huge cinema was put up in Saarbrücken, 1900s style!
Short movies from the birth of film were shown. I loved the design of this crazy booth!

A big downside that public festivals bring with them is the incredible amount of waste and garbage...
Our town put up some extra containers, but obviously they weren't enough, because half of the town looked like this. =(

This is a brass band who took part in the parade that was held in honour to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Saarland, the youngest and smallest federal state of Germany.

Dromedaries in SB

For reasons of promoting the zoo in Neunkirchen, three dromedaries were brought here.
In this place, a camerateam took a video of them, and several pictures were taken by professionals for the local newspaper.

Just back from a nice evening in the Feinkost Schmitt bar in Nauwieser Viertel...
If you're in Saarbrücken, go there, their relaxed 70s athmosphere and the low prices topped with the best bar music in town is worth being checked out!
