It's Pumpkin Time

Autuum, time of the pumpkins.
I love making a sweet pumpkin casserole (I can't find the recipe right now, but I'll post it here as soon as it shows up again...).

Ice Cream!

I saw this funky ice cream van today, superb colours, red and blue and yellow. The vendor was this nice Italian guy, smiling at me and the customers all the time, so it really felt like a great summer day again.
After the rain period we had within the last days, it felt great to buy a proper Italian ice.

Today, a camera team of the Saarländischer Rundfunk was filming me, asking questions and reporting about Saarbrücken Daily Photo. Super-exciting!!! =)
The movie should be shown tomorrow or the day after, I'll post the video on my private blog if I should have the right to do so.

Well, at least some Saarbrücken inhabitants are happy about the rain... Unfortunately, with these temperatures, our last wonderful flowers might get a serious cold soon... =(

Rain (sucks!)

Yuck! It rains again. We had five beautiful days, and that was it.
We're back to wet cobblestones (great for high heels), winter coats, hats and umbrellas... =(

New Haircut

Please, somebody help this poor guy.
He really needs some styling advise, and most definitely a new haircut!

Removal

Showing you a very very small part of Saarbrücken today... mica and vird moved to a new flat today. This is what the living room looked like after hours of carrying boxes. =)

Manhole Cover

Here we have an original Saarbrücken manhole cover surrounded by cobblestones. You can still find those in many areas here, especially in the old town.

Clockwork Orange

Ooooh, I loved the artwork on this sticker I saw on my bus. I'm not sure who did it though, but I think it's awesome!
(Also, googleing for "Orange Saarbrücken" unfortunately didn't bring up relevant results...)

For a Better Education

Young people put banners all over town demanding more funding and chances for a good education.
Apprenticeship training positions are rare in Germany, and many young persons who graduated from school have problems finding positions.

Signs Signs Signs

Germany is widely known for the intensive use of street signs.
When you go on a German motorway for example you'll find new signs about every 100 metres (and all of them contradicting each other)...
These are for a crossroad, only go straight and don't park or stop on either of the sides of the road.

Max-Plack-Institut Informatik

Yesterday I showed you the neighbouring institute of my working place.
I'm working at the Max-Plack-Institut Informatik since 2002. It's a really cool place with many computer scientists from all over the world working and studying here.

Unbelievable that the summer is as good as over. We had so much rain during the last weeks, so I enjoy the few sunny ones - like this one.

Theme Day: Street lights and Signs

Achtung! (Attention!)
A sign to warn you of the buses and trams going into both directions.
Today it had a double meaning, because - as you can see - someone fired a small smoke bomb in the middle of the city. Quite unusual for our small town and certainly something that raised the attention level here.

Retirement

Petra, the lady in red, had her last day at work today.
She's such a sweet lady and deserves her retirement to spend more great days with her grandchildren (one of them was born today!).

Went to "Perspektive 1" again... They have some nice new Indonesian decoration.

6Null3

Spent a cool club night in 6Null3 yesterday night. It was Elektrikhausneid Spezial, and we danced for hours and hours...
After disco, we went to the café Chez Jérome, a baguetteria which opens at 4 am every day. There, you basically meet all the people from the clubs who get their breakfast. What a great place!!! Finally I got tired and so I got home around 6 am. =)

I visited one of my best friends in the hospital today, where we ate at the Panorama Café on the 6th floor. Obvious why it's called that, right?
So I hope you get well soon, Carsten. And also happy birthday Marco! =)

Crazy Cinématographe

A huge cinema was put up in Saarbrücken, 1900s style!
Short movies from the birth of film were shown. I loved the design of this crazy booth!

Garbage Problem

A big downside that public festivals bring with them is the incredible amount of waste and garbage...
Our town put up some extra containers, but obviously they weren't enough, because half of the town looked like this. =(

Masses!

Many many many many maaaany people came here to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Saarland. This is the view towards town from the old bridge...

Saarland Festival

This is a brass band who took part in the parade that was held in honour to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Saarland, the youngest and smallest federal state of Germany.

Dromedaries in SB

For reasons of promoting the zoo in Neunkirchen, three dromedaries were brought here.
In this place, a camerateam took a video of them, and several pictures were taken by professionals for the local newspaper.

Streetlights

I love these kinds of streetlamps. They're so pretty and always remind me of Paris. =)

Ludwigskirche

Woah, more than a year, and I didn't show you the Ludwigskirche of Saarbrücken yet.
A very nice baroque church with interior fittings that are completely white.

Waves in the Sky

Woah, just look at the amazing sky of Saarbrücken today... I was stunned!

Feinkost Schmitt

Just back from a nice evening in the Feinkost Schmitt bar in Nauwieser Viertel...
If you're in Saarbrücken, go there, their relaxed 70s athmosphere and the low prices topped with the best bar music in town is worth being checked out!

I sneaked through the fence of the Saarbrücken stadium to take a picture of an upcoming football match.
As you can see, one couldn't say that it was sold out... =)

Totem

A totem located at the building of KIST Europe.
I'm not sure why it's there (or is it a Korean thing? I didn't think so...), but I love it!

KIST Europe

The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Europe has one of the nicest buildings on campus.Its partners are research institutes and industrial companies in Europe and Korea. Together with its partners, KIST Europe solves problems and develops technologies which can be available in both continents. Its vision is to be the core of scientific and technological cooperation between Korea and EU countries.

Small Bridge

A lot of construction is going on at the university campus. This is a little bridge that has been constructed recently, along with the new layout of the stones. Cute!

We're quite a bicycle friendly town, so there are many cycle paths like this one.
