Saarvoir Vivre?

Another of Zippo's amazing pictures called "Saarvoir vivre?". Perfect title, perfect of a real "Saarbrigger" - nothing more to say. =)

OMG, I just realised that this is the 500th post of Saarbrücken Daily Photo!!! Whoopee!

Morning Fog

Saarelibre aka Zippo allowed me to show you some of his amazing pictures, so here I go with the first one: morning for in the East of Saarbrücken.
(Since I would never volunteer to get up that early, I could never present such a wonderful picture to you =)

Instead of a Picture - the Video!

Here's the video of the report on my photo blog as seen on TV (Saarländischer Rundfunk) on September 24, 2007. It's in German, sorry for the English speaking community! =(

Gelbe Säcke

One detail you will see twice a month in German cities are stacks of yellow bags. These contain all our plastic garbage that will be recycled.
We have several recycling systems, the green ton for biological waste like food leftovers, a blue container for paper waste, and different glass containers for green, brown and clear glass. Also, normal containers for any other waste... veeeery annoying and complicated for foreigners moving her, but let's just assume the waste manufactures stick to the recycling system, so it's for a good cause. =)

Magic Land

Again, I saw some beautiful overgrown fairytale houses...
I would move in here right away, f it wasn't for all the spiders that probably live in the green...

Nice Home

Around Ilseplatz, you can find many of those beautiful old and large villas.
Great area to live, but as you can imagine, the prices for the rent are higher here as well...

Flare, Anyone?

Hey sun, why don't you just stay a tiny little while longer?

Stepped Facade

You can see this house's style in several places in Saarbrücken.
This one is on Rodenhof.

It's Pumpkin Time

Autuum, time of the pumpkins.
I love making a sweet pumpkin casserole (I can't find the recipe right now, but I'll post it here as soon as it shows up again...).

Ice Cream!

I saw this funky ice cream van today, superb colours, red and blue and yellow. The vendor was this nice Italian guy, smiling at me and the customers all the time, so it really felt like a great summer day again.
After the rain period we had within the last days, it felt great to buy a proper Italian ice.

Today, a camera team of the Saarländischer Rundfunk was filming me, asking questions and reporting about Saarbrücken Daily Photo. Super-exciting!!! =)
The movie should be shown tomorrow or the day after, I'll post the video on my private blog if I should have the right to do so.

Happy =)

Well, at least some Saarbrücken inhabitants are happy about the rain... Unfortunately, with these temperatures, our last wonderful flowers might get a serious cold soon... =(

Rain (sucks!)

Yuck! It rains again. We had five beautiful days, and that was it.
We're back to wet cobblestones (great for high heels), winter coats, hats and umbrellas... =(

Please, somebody help this poor guy.
He really needs some styling advise, and most definitely a new haircut!

Removal

Showing you a very very small part of Saarbrücken today... mica and vird moved to a new flat today. This is what the living room looked like after hours of carrying boxes. =)

Hmm, guess I am a voyeur... At least I feel like it when I take pics of strangers sometimes. =)
Two girls chatting in Moloko bar.

End of Days

A big THANK YOU to vird who allowed me to use some of his pictures.
He called this one "End of Days" which I think is a great title. No more to say about this... =)

Manhole Cover

A big THANK YOU to vird who allowed me to use some of his pictures.
Here we have an original Saarbrücken manhole cover surrounded by cobblestones. You can still find those in many areas here, especially in the old town.

Clockwork Orange

Ooooh, I loved the artwork on this sticker I saw on my bus. I'm not sure who did it though, but I think it's awesome!
(Also, googleing for "Orange Saarbrücken" unfortunately didn't bring up relevant results...)

For a Better Education

Young people put banners all over town demanding more funding and chances for a good education.
Apprenticeship training positions are rare in Germany, and many young persons who graduated from school have problems finding positions.

Bus Philosophy

Empty surfaces always invite people to write something on it...
One of those writings were "3 tips for life": "say what's true, drink what's clear and fuck what's there". Nice. =)

Reflections of Me

Frei sein heisst lieben und leben
Süsse Geheimnisse
Sich vergessen
Sich verlieren
Im Regen tanzen
Könige betören
Die Nacht geniessen
Den Frühling spüren

Signs Signs Signs

Germany is widely known for the intensive use of street signs.
When you go on a German motorway for example you'll find new signs about every 100 metres (and all of them contradicting each other)...
These are for a crossroad, only go straight and don't park or stop on either of the sides of the road.

Max-Plack-Institut Informatik

Yesterday I showed you the neighbouring institute of my working place.
I'm working at the Max-Plack-Institut Informatik since 2002. It's a really cool place with many computer scientists from all over the world working and studying here.

Some more Flowers

... and some moss... Liked the green of the moss and the pink of the roses.
Unbelievable that the summer is as good as over. We had so much rain during the last weeks, so I enjoy the few sunny ones - like this one.

Fairy Tale Home

I simply love those overgrown houses. They always make me think of fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm...

Theme Day: Street lights and Signs

Achtung! (Attention!)
A sign to warn you of the buses and trams going into both directions.
Today it had a double meaning, because - as you can see - someone fired a small smoke bomb in the middle of the city. Quite unusual for our small town and certainly something that raised the attention level here.
