A New Graffiti

I saw this graffiti downtown. I loved the blue guys surrounded by that much colour of the other works.
I wonder if they are self-portraits...

Bürgeramt

The registration office, called "Bürgeramt" here, you will have to visit when you just moved to Saarbrücken. It is a very modern building downtown.

Rain Men

I guess these guys were standing in the clouds of Saarbrücken today, because the rain started again...
So once more, dressing in my winter coat, umbrella in the hand and off I went (and forgot to take the mud-resistant shoes... =)

Westspange

This picture was taken close to yesterday's location.
The staircase leads up to the "Westspange", the bridge that connects the city with the motorway A620.

Bürgerpark

One of the most famous pictures taken for publicity purposes, is this view from the bridge Westspange down to the Bürgerpark. The area of this park is 9 hectare, you can find half pipes for skaters, a space to play boule and some meadows to rest on.
There has been a lot of crime in this park, that's why I usually don't go there though. But for you I made an exception. =)

PS: Finally! It's been a great day today, and I didn't have stress, so I went on a long photography tour.

DFKI

This building is part of the "Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz" (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence) on the campus of our university.
It is the leading German research institute in the field of innovative software technology - with a very stylish building! =)

Shopping Mall

This is an entrance to the shopping mall "Saarbasar". They have big paintings showing things the Saarland is famous for. The one in front shows the "Völklinger Hütte", big ironworks close to Saarbrücken. They were declared a World Heritage site in 1994.

The Raven

Saw this cute guy on the lawn searching for worms.
After the rain he was lucky to find a lot of earthworms, I guess...

White Spring

Yes, it was snowing again today.
The world looks very pretty with the icing on top, no doubt - but I have gotten so used to the wonderful sunshine we had during the last weeks... and now I had to get my winter coat back out, brrrr!

Memories

Oh my, when I saw this little candy mint Fiat Panda in town, I was reminded of the good old times when I had such a cutie. I had to sell it about a year ago because it was about to fall apart... =(
It was the most horrible and most wonderful car in the world, I'm sure you know what I mean, if you are also the owner of a car "with character".

Totem

The Saarbrücken Zoo has a totem pole close to the entrance.
It's pretty tall and quite impressive for we don't see them a lot here in Germany. =)

Snow Indeed

Incredible! It did snow today, several times there were as many snowflakes as you can see on this picture. The snow even lastet for a short while, melted again in the sunshine until the next snow was falling. Really interesting weather and beautiful white snow. =)

Blossoms

Quite early, everything is blooming this year and appears in beautiful colours.
For tomorrow and the following days, snow has been announced though, I hope these beautiful plants won't freeze then.

Cool Flat

I was at a nice game evening/party tonight, and I was absolutely stunned by the cool flat in the middle of Saarbrücken.
It's a flat share of four people, and they decorated their rooms with lots of love and great ideas. There's even a swing in their living room!
The slogan on the wall basically means: "Don't be afraid. Be brave."

Magic Cloud

Once again, a pretty cloud high up in the sky.
The sun was coming out again, and the day ended with beautiful sunshine... =)

Working on the Roof

Saw this guy working on top of the roof today... he looked so lonely up there, like a big bird.

Laying in the Grass

Today was a brilliant warm spring day... so warm indeed, that the first students decided to study outside.
These girls lay on the big university lawn (AC-Wiese) and enjoyed the sun.

Daisy

One of my favourite flowers and the unmistakable sign for springtime is the daisy.
This is one of those beauties that I found in our garden this afternoon.

Lazy Sunday

Oh, how I love weekends. You hang around and for the first time of the week: DO NOTHING!
Unfortunately, I had to write a paper, so the only lazy one around was this yawning one. Lucky him!

Rowing the Saar

I saw this oarsman some days ago on the Saar, I liked the circling waves the oars create.
You can see the Saarbrücken castle walls and the castle in the background (the white house with the gray roof).

Art

This is a big artwork in front of my working place.
The way the sun hit it produced a cool shadow...

Crane

Another construction site picture... a huuuge crane.
You always feel so small when you look up to them. They are still as fascinating to me as back in my childhood days.

A Little Blue

The construction site at university looked interesting today.
The construction workers cut the big blue pipes in the background, and "lost" a lot of the blue plastic all over the place, almost like confetti.

Funny Bus Times

In November 2006, new bus schedules were introduced. Since then arriving at university on time got quite hard, and many other people are complaining about the buses as well.
Anyway, there are some funny schedules on the bus stops, like this one at Bahnhofstrasse: Bus no. 153 leaves exactly once a week on Sundays at 5:29 am, and goes just one stop further from there (to the train station, which is about 100 metres away from that stop). Amazing.
Now that's what I call a waste of a sheet of A4-paper... =)

Old Bridge

This bridge is called "old bridge", which is a simple but true name. =) It's one of the oldest bridges here, and even though the weather isn't perfect, it still is a nice view when you're in town.

Pirates?

I saw this pirate-flag at the Schwimmschiff that anchors in the Saar.
I'm hoping for Captain Jack Sparrow to show up soon. =)

Great Architecture

It is a shame that many of those great houses were destroyed in WWII here. You will see a lot of buildings from the 50s in Saarbrücken usually.... =(

Pretty Signs

I love those old advertising signs that you can see around town. I think that's pretty German thing, isn't it?

Theme Day: Men at Work

I have been to the Kebab restaurant "Bosporus" today, and took a picture of the boss of the place when he collected our money. He and his wife are truly hard working, they turned this place from a tiny diner to a wonderful little restaurant that is lovely decorated.
