Reindeer in Saarbrücken!!!

Unbelievable... in Duweiler, there are three reindeer that are raised as farm animals in the building of a former iron foundry. They are called Sternchen, Momo and Schorsch. =)
Reindeer are very hard to breed outside of Scandinavia, they often die in their new homes. The owners in Dudweiler try to keep them appropriate to the needs of the species, they even have a very informative website about their project (unfortunately in German, only).

Why are they breeding them? Food? (I ate reindeer in Finland)

This is a research project to find out about the needs of the reindeer, and what is needed to keep and breed them far away from Scandinavia.
They only have those three reindeer at the moment, so they will not eat them... =)
It's two girls and a boy, so I guess they will want to try to have reindeer babies. Once the research project is successfully finished, it would be possible to grow reindeer as proper farm animals, probably for meat.
