Sardines in a Tin

When I see those multi-storey buildings (I've grown up in a similar one, too) I'm always reminded of a tin. People packed like sardines in a concrete compostion of an endless number of flates that look exactly the same.

At least, the area this building is standing in is ok, it's in Saarbrücken-Rodenhof, one of our better neighbourhoods, and the building is not as run-down as many others you might find in less popular living areas here.

It does look very cold and industrial. People crave creativity. Don't they? Especially in something like an apartment-you need to feel it's your own personal space.

I am afraid thet the same here in France. I am sure the planners could have done better.

We live on the seventh floor. The top sardines. Worst when the lift doesn't work and you're carrying lots of shopping

Sometimes they try to make them look a bit nicer by painting them in different colors. It doesn't really change the comfort of living inside the building but the appearance is a bit more friendly then.

There were some really bad developments in the UK, which make this look like luxury living, some of which have been torn down. I'll see if I can get a picture of some soon, but I'll have to be wary getting a camera out in some of them!
