Saarbahn

Oh, I realised I haven't explained yet why there's a tram picture in the header of my blog.
Saarbrücken doesn't have an underground system, but lots of buses and tram lines, going all over the town up to France (Sarreguemines).
There are 22 trams that are called Saarbahn, and they've been running here since 1997. Every day, about 40.000 people take a ride. This is a picture of one of the main stops at the train station.
Another mystery solved... =)

I don't know why but I love trams! I am very happy they're building one in Paris now.

@eric: I saw a TV report once about them planning a new tram in Paris and they showed pictures from the Saarbahn as a role model for the Paris one :-)

@moonsoleil: when you write "there are 22 trams" it sounds as if there were 22 lines, but actually there is only one freaking line, served by 22 cars...

but the 1 (the one and only line) has two endstations. And when the Saarmesse is, we got a second line too ;)

...sounds like theres one line, two end stations, 22 trams, a gang of scooby doos, and a heart transplant! wow, what a crazy post! by the way - I actually never noticed the tram on the header - strangely enuf - the red haired cartoon caught my eyes before the tram did!

Hey there, thanks for your comments, especially to kala for the great summary! =)
So yes, basically there's one line going from Sarreguemines to Riegelberg and back of course (so basically two lines)... on those lines there are 22 trams.
And whoever speaks German can check out more information here...
